AmeriCorps

Getting Things Done.

AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Since 1994, AmeriCorps provides thousands of opportunities for Americans of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to serve their communities and build the capacity of grassroots organizations to meet local environmental, educational, public safety, or other human needs. AmeriCorps is sometimes referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps,” due to its focus on providing service opportunities for Americans to give back to their country.

AmeriCorps members perform service with a program that meets local community needs in return for a modest living allowance and a Segal Education Award. During 2015 ACE will proudly offer over 300 AmeriCorps opportunities through multiple State/National programs across all of our branches.

ACE AmeriCorps members serve in Arizona, Utah, California, North Carolina, and in other service locations around the country while working alongside dozens of land management agencies all over the United States. ACE AmeriCorps members receive job skills trainings, living stipends, free housing, free meals, and an Education Award upon successful completion of their term of service.

ACE AmeriCorps programs are designed to provide American youth with opportunities for personal and professional development as well as the hands-on job skills training necessary for advancement in outdoor careers, all while meeting critical community needs through environmental stewardship and volunteerism.

ACE has proudly been involved with the AmeriCorps program since 2009.

ACE AmeriCorps Programs:

Arizona Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families

In 2009, ACE Arizona was awarded a State Formula Grant through the Arizona Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families(GOCYF). Since then, ACE has provided over 75 AmeriCorps opportunities to American youth eager to develop leadership skills, strengthen communities throughout Arizona, and pursue outdoor careers related to conservation and environmental stewardship. GOCYF ACE AmeriCorps members make a positive impact by serving on conservation projects in National Parks, National Forests, and other wilderness areas within Arizona. Out of the 2014 GOCYF ACE AmeriCorps graduates, 50% were employed as leaders in ACE and other conservation corps throughout the nation.

California Volunteers

In 2010, ACE California was awarded a State Formula Grant from California Volunteers. This grant supported 40 AmeriCorps members per year to serve with ACE. After successfully achieving and exceeding program goals in 2010 and 2011, ACE CA was granted a program expansion for 2012-2013 and currently has 57 half-time AmeriCorps members and 28 quarter-time AmeriCorps members per year.

The Corps Network

The Corps Network’s mission, as the national membership association of Service and Conservation Corps, is to provide critical leadership to the Corps movement as they harness the power of youth and young adults to tackle some of America’s greatest challenges and transform their own lives. Like ACE, The Corps Network advocates for youth from all backgrounds to receive outdoor jobs skills training while benefiting surrounding communities through their service and volunteerism. As a full member of The Corps Network, ACE is able to offer 250+ AmeriCorps positions annually through its National Education Award Program (EAP). ACE EAP members work on outdoor conservation projects all over the United States.

Northern Arizona University, AmeriCorps Youth In Action

Since 2007, ACE AZ has been awarded 40+ AmeriCorps positions from the NAU AmeriCorps Youth in Action (YIA) program. Based out of Flagstaff, AmeriCorps YIA is the largest and longest running AmeriCorps program in Arizona. As a partner of NAU, ACE offers YIA AmeriCorps opportunities for the purpose of providing professional, leadership development to individuals and meeting critical community needs in Coconino County.

The voice of our AmeriCorps Members…
“I would certainly recommend ACE/AmeriCorps to my friends. ACE is a great place to develop as a person and gain experience in a very worthwhile field of work all while having a positive environment to do it in.” Neal Watson
