American Conservation Experience Volunteers Improve Trails in Inaja Memorial Park

Young Adults Roll Up Their Sleeves to Reinforce and Stabalize Trails Ahead of the Busy Summer Season

April 28, 2023 – In partnership with Cleveland National Forest staff
, American Conservation Experience (ACE) has reinforced and created more sustainable trails at the Inaja Memorial Park in Santa Ysabel, CA. The Inaja Memorial Park commemorates and memorializes eleven firefighters who lost their lives battling the 60,000-acre Inaja Wildfire in 1956.

An ACE conservation crew comprised of young adults recently completed a six-week volunteer term to improve trails including constructing large stone staircases and drainage features across the park. They also worked on the trails in spring 2022. The popular trails offer views down to the San Diego River canyon and scenic vistas of the Palomar and Volcan Mountains.

“ACE is proud to partner with the U.S. Forest Service to help create long-term, sustainable access for the popular recreational trails at Inaja Memorial Park,” said ACE CEO and President Laura Herrin. “We are grateful to our volunteers who devoted over 20 weeks in performing much needed repairs and stabilization for this special site that commemorates the firefighters who sacrificed their lives helping others.”

American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a non-profit conservation corps that recruits and trains young adults and military veterans from all backgrounds to complete a range of restoration, recreation, and historic preservation projects across the U.S. and in several territories.  Corps members serve in professionally supervised teams as they explore future outdoor careers, learn practical field skills, and develop confidence as emerging leaders in the field of conservation. The organization has hub locations across the country including Sacramento and Ridgecrest, CA. To get involved or learn more, visit www.usaconservation.org.
