American Conservation Experience (ACE) corps members received a visit by the Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on August 9, 2023.
During the visit, corps members showcased their work including the protection of fragile habitats including native sagebrush ecosystems and fighting invasive species to support the survival of the Greater Sage-Grouse.
“We are excited the Second Gentleman was able to meet the young adults who dedicated their summer to improving public lands benefiting national park visitors and wildlife,” said ACE CEO and President Laura Herrin. “We enjoyed the opportunity to highlight the work of conservation corps and the role they play in building the next generation of land stewards.”
This week marks the final week of a three-month term for the crew, which is comprised of members ranging in age 19-26. They have supported several projects including modifying the greater sage-grouse habitat to entice local grouse populations away from Jackson Hole Airport, which sits on land leased by Grand Teton National Park. The crew also focused on invasive plant management and native seed collection to boost the health of the native plant community, which is essential for the greater sage-grouse’s survival.
ACE recruits, trains, and deploys young adults ages 18-30 years old and veterans up to age 35 to explore and protect public lands while gaining practical professional experience. The organization operates projects across the US and several territories year-round. To learn more and get involved, visit www.usaconservation.org.
